Education and Knowledge

1.    Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
2.    Familiar with the Plant Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), generating license and service delivery requirements.
3.    Fair knowledge in coal power plant, combined cycle power plant and hydro power plant performance monitoring & analysis.
4.    Extensive knowledge in power plant thermodynamics.
5.    Fair knowledge of relevant law and statutory requirements for power plant operation.
6.    Proficient in utilizing performance analysis software/systems employed within TNB Genco.

Experience Requirements

1.    Minimum eight (8) years working experience in power generation industry with preference five (5) years in plant O&M position.
2.    Experience in developing thermodynamic models and performing simulation using Thermodynamic Modelling software.
3.    Experience in applying various plant performance analysis techniques, including both online and offline methods.
4.    Experience working with various plant types i.e. coal plant, combined cycle gas plant and hydro plant.
5.    Experience in conducting hands-on plant troubleshooting, analyzing schematics / technical diagrams to identify potential root causes.

Accountability & Responsibility

  • Effectively implement efficiency improvement initiatives across the TNB Genco power plant fleet to enhance operational efficiency and positively impact EBIT.
  • Continuously monitor and analyze the performance of critical power plant equipment and auxiliary systems using online monitoring tools to proactively ensure high system reliability and efficiency.
  • Spearhead the development and maintenance of accurate thermodynamic models for all power plants within the TNB Genco fleet, utilizing available modeling software and tools.
  • Develop and execute "what-if" simulations using thermodynamic models to quantify the financial impact (profit/losses) of various operational conditions and scenarios.
  • Conduct "what-if" simulations to evaluate the impact of proposed plant modifications and upgrades, providing expert advisory to power plants on the technical and financial viability of the said proposals.
  • Ensure the accuracy and reliability of calculations derived from thermodynamic modeling software, performing necessary troubleshooting, corrections, and model tuning to resolve convergence issues.
  • Collaborate closely with power station personnel to identify the root causes of performance-related issues, develop effective action plans, and quantify the potential EBIT recovery from implementing these actions.
  • Champion the implementation and utilization of online monitoring systems to significantly enhance fleet-wide performance monitoring capabilities and deliver exceptional technical services.
  • Provide precise technical analyses and actionable recommendations based on insights gained from online monitoring systems, and diligently track the value generated through the implementation of these recommendations.
  • Ensure the successful completion of Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) projects, adhering to the highest quality standards, designated timelines, and allocated budgets.
  • Maintain continuous engagement with station management and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) personnel to ensure the effective implementation of recommendations and foster high levels of customer satisfaction with the services provided.
  • Provide expert assistance to plant personnel on performance-related technical standards and codes, including ASME PTC 4, 6, 22, 46, and HEI standards.
  • Ensure the timely submission of accurate and high-quality performance-related reports to power stations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Unit/Section strategic plans for the short, medium, and long term, aligning with broader Division/Department business strategies.
  • Ensuring project activities comply with all relevant laws and statutory requirements, internal guidelines or procedures and industry best practices by staying up to date on legal requirements and implementing necessary control measures.
  • Prioritize safety and health by adhering to all relevant legislation and actively participating in creating a safe working environment. Promptly report any unsafe acts or conditions through the HSE e-wallet (Potential Incident) system.
  • Establish, maintain and review periodically elements of Genco Integrated Management System (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 55001, ISO 27001, ISO 9001) and other management system standards based on roles and functions as and when required to meet the ISO standard requirements, Genco’s policies and business objectives.
