Education and Knowledge

1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from universities recognised by the Government of Malaysia (Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA) / Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
2. Possess in-depth knowledge of Boiler operation principles, troubleshooting techniques and problem-solving.
3. Knowledge of power generation technologies, including combined cycle gas turbine power plants, related renewable energy systems as well as performance parameters.
4. Familiarity with local and international regulations governing the power generation industry, including safety standards, environmental regulations, and permitting processes, is essential for ensuring compliance and managing risk effectively.
5. In-depth knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards for Boiler design, operation, and maintenance (e.g., ASME and Pressure Vessel Code).
6. Knowledge of power plants projects such as Engineering, Design, Construction and Testing & Commissioning.
7. Knowledge on advanced Boiler and green combustion technologies including performance monitoring
8. Good understanding of contract structure and management (i.e. FIDIC, EPCC contract)
9. Good foundation in project management principles.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years’ working experience as a mechanical engineer with preference in Boiler background.
• Experience in power plants projects such as Engineering, Design, Construction and Testing & Commissioning
• Experience in Operation & Maintenance of Power Plants inclusive of troubleshooting and problem-solving activities.
• Proficient in the relevant mechanical Standards and Codes (i.e. ASME PTC) related to Boiler and their applications, including all relevant international codes and practices.
• Sufficient knowledge of Boiler engineering technologies and performance measurement using plant simulation software.
• Experience managing technical review, engineering management and QA/QC inspection.
• Experience preparing technical specifications, then managing tendering processes.
• Familiar with appropriate software to simulate various scenarios measuring Boiler performance.
• Experience in dealing, communicates and collaborates with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.

Accountability & Responsibility

Engineering Excellence:

1. Manage and ensure simulation tools and information for Boiler design and engineering databases are current and relevant.
2. Regularly update the content (incl. International Standards) and keep abreast of new developments on Boiler technologies.
3. Manage policies, systems and process improvements through engineering procedures / criteria and post project reviews as well as benchmarking to ensure engineering practices are at par with industries’ best practices.
4. Manage continuous improvement and standardization of engineering design criteria, processes and procedures applied in all engineering projects across the organization.
5. Collaborate closely with Asset Management and Business Development and Execution teams to gather valuable feedback and insights that inform the development of improvement projects related to engineering aspect.
6. Ensure strict adherence to all relevant laws, statutory requirements, internal guidelines, procedures, and industry best practices, implementing necessary control measures to maintain compliance.
   
   

Engineering Services (for New Assets):

1. Provide and manage the Boiler engineering support to Business Development and Execution team on technical specification preparation, engineering, and design during proposal development process.
2. Manage the plant simulation analysis and provide recommendations for preliminary power plant design dan performance data to TNB Genco’s Business units.
3. Provide and manage the technical assessment/due diligence and provide recommendations to Business Development and Execution team.
4. Review and manage the new Boiler and green technologies.
5. Manage technical assessments such as feasibility and viability studies and provide recommendations to Genco Engineering Council (GEC).
6. Provide Boiler engineering support to relevant Project team regarding design development and detail engineering stage during project execution.
7. Review and perform Boiler related to technical due diligence, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) procedures and criteria.
8. Ensure compliance with all Boiler technical requirements as stipulated in contracts for thermal projects undertaken by the Department.
   
   

O&M Technical Support:

1. Manage the advisory services for asset owners’ engineering services on engineering design issues.
2. Manage the ad-hoc troubleshooting support with respective plants regarding critical issues unsolved by Operations & Maintenance team.
3. Provide technical design reviews for plant modifications or upgrading.
   
   

Engineering Support:

1. Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, providing assurance regarding risk exposures and the effectiveness of mitigation strategies.
2. Demonstrates full commitment to HSE principles, fostering a safe and conducive work environment, and ensuring strict adherence to all HSE procedures and internal guidelines. Promptly report any unsafe acts or conditions through the HSE wallet.
3. Enhance leadership skills and technical competencies aligning with current and future business needs.
   
   

Manage and maintain elements of Genco Integrated Management System (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 55001, ISO 27001, ISO 9001) and other management system standards based on roles and functions as and when required to meet the ISO standard requirements and TNB Genco’s policies and objectives.
